Each evening we walk hand in hand
in all sorts of moods and weather
along the familiar curve of the bay
where scoters stay in pairs until piped
away by the clarion call of the season.

Just now, we unclasp our hands and, comme
une jeune fille,
you lift up your face to catch
a perfect snowflake on the tip of your tongue.

These evening walks, remembered, will be
like the wondrous path of a shooting star
a gift of frozen starlight that blesses everyone.
