For R.D.

I couldn’t choose her for
a mother. I chose her
for a metaphor: Hydrangea.
Bombastic blossom, she wants to
carry something for you. In winter
bare to twigs she holds—a floral
metronome. You can set your old
clock to her blooming.

The author of Bellow & Hiss, a New Women’s Voices Series Chapbook Competition finalist (Finishing Line Press), Alyson Gold Weinberg’s poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Quarter After Eight, december, ONE ART, Halfway Down the Stairs, and others. Her poem “Gwen’s Luncheonette” was chosen by Dianne Seuss as runner up for the 2024 Robert J. DeMott Short Prose Prize. When not writing, Alyson enjoys binge-watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race with her family.
