I say no matter how old I get I can look
forward to being younger than you.
You say we’ll be taking that dirt nap
before we know it.
And though everyone at the table double-takes,
half-laughing, nobody wants to sleep tonight.
And when finally we sleep, we wake without
a dream and none of us will mention this again.
