Wake to the songbirds
welcoming the morning’s
light through a corner window.
Words trickle a gentle
stream in the nearby forest
punctuated by stone —
a dash — breath. Some
you butterfly net, cache
on paper, scrap or page.
Wash by hand tomorrow’s
white dress. While it dries
on a line in the afternoon
breeze, count and catalog
the wildflowers dithering
in the meadow.
Later, return to the bedroom
of slanting light, dipping lower
under the weight of the stars.
